Plastering is

The entire process that creates plasterwork is called plastering and has since long been used for construction of buildings. A plasterer is the craftsman who carries out the function of plastering and for this trade he requires equipment like floats, trowels, hammers, floats and screeds besides scratching tools and a variety of cement that they use along with colouring agents if need be. The process of external plastering also referred to as Stucco that is composed of lime and cement.
The wall needs to be well wetted so that no moisture content can be absorbed from the plaster. Wherein the rough stucco process is used to imitate stonework on the wall that forms a surface of sand on the plaster. Though for producing a smooth surface the plasterer only needs to smoothen out using a hand float. The black and grey surface that you notice is made using forged ashes in varying proportions, that is if you want to use coloured stucco effect.

Its Application

Successive coats of plaster are applied upon the surface, one coat is considered very coarse and looks like cheap plaster work, and is done to buildings that can make do with a plain coat of plaster work to keep away the draught and weather for example the outhouse. Two coats of plaster are done for residential apartments in rooms of lesser importance or then in warehouses. Two coats of plasterwork are often referred to as render used to set in the walls with lath and plaster to set in. A thin coat is then applied that helps setting and then it is brushed or trowelled for a smooth finish.
